Play Group

Eligibility:

A child who is two years and above is eligible to enroll in Play Group.

 Behavior Traits:

By two years a child starts moving and experimenting with all kinds of gross movements with both legs and hands. During this period they grow in physical independence in a major way. Tremendous progress is witnessed in the child’s ability to communication and a huge jump in vocabulary and its usage. In personal-social domain too a child moves from a comparative passive “receiving role” to an active assertive interaction pattern. A child’s curiosity leads to development of his/her understanding of all that is, and that happens around.

Teaching Process

The Kid Veda curriculum in Play Group is designed to first make the children comfortable with the new school environment.

Since it is the first time a child  starts attending play school, lot of time is given to the child to adjust with the teachers, caregivers and other children and also the general school envirornment. During the initial few days a parents is also allowed to be present in the school and the child is allowed to meet the parent if they want.

Lot of games like sand play, water play and various teaching learning aids like hammer and peg, blocks, beads and strings, play dough etc are introduced to help develop fine motor skills.

Puzzles, stories with pictures are introduced with objects that are familiar to the child.

Rhymes are taught with music, rhythm and action.

Various out door games like throwing a catching a ball, walking backwards, walking on a balancing beam, running, rope climbing etc are played to help in the development of gross motor skills.

As the child adjusts indoor activities like identification of color, scribbling, painting, finger tracing activities are introduced.

Preparatory

Eligibility

A child who is three years or above is eligible to enroll in Preparatory. Prior experience of attending Pre-school is not necessary

Behavior Traits

A three year old is centered on themselves. They are yet to realize that there are others around them just like themselves. They do not play in groups and usually play independently. They have insufficient muscular control especially over finger movements. They like to watch and follow. They are curious and eager to learn but with limited speed and tire easily. They love repetitions.

Teaching Process

Activities and games organized for Preparatory students are short, simple and involve the use of hands and fingers so that child learns muscular control.

Puzzles, stories with pictures are introduced with objects that are familiar to the child.

Rhymes are taught with music, rhythm and action.

Identification of English Alphabets and numbers are done using sand paper, finger tracing and coloring. Color tablets matching games are played to teach identification of colors.

Real life objects like fruits and vegetables are used to help them in identification.

Various activities like identification of, scribbling, painting, finger tracing activities, pattern making are introduced at this stage.

Outdoor games like ball catching and throwing, walking on a balancing beam, rope climbing, running, jumping etc are played for gross motor skill development.

Various life skills like folding mats/ handkerchiefs/clothes, watering a plant, opening and closing of the tiffin box, using a spoon and folk, saying the three golden words- “Please, Sorry and Thank-you ” etc are taught to help develop social skills.

Special conversation sessions in English are conducted on daily life experiences like – “my favorite food” , “my family” “What I Like to play” etc to help them learn to converse in English.

Along with learning social skills a lot of importance is placed on value based education- like respecting elders, helpers, taking care of the environment, not wasting things, being kind to the needy and animals etc so that they grow into responsible global citizens.

Nursery

Eligibility

A child who is four years or above is eligible to enroll in Nursery. Direct admission in Nursery without having attended at least one year of Pre-school/home schooling is not possible.

Behavior Traits

Children of this age group have better control over their bodies and can use their hands constructively. They have wider vocabulary and can express their ideas better. They enjoy group activities and are and more disciplined and wait for their turns. They love exploring and engaging in new activities and are vigorous and bursting with energy.

Teaching Process

At this stage teaching is done through lot group activities and non-competing games. Children are more disciplined and learn to wait for their turns in this age group, so activities where they wait for their turn are introduced where they learn about good social behavior too.

Language, Arithmetic and Rhymes are introduced. They have better fine muscle control and can hold a more crayon/pencil steadily. Alphabet and number formation is taught through shapes and pattern tracing.

 Rhymes with related activities are taught with rhythm and movement.

Every day observations of daily life about things that a child observes in school, home, public places like markets, hospital, parks, places of worship, names of different kinds of food we eat, places we visit, games we play, things we use are introduced as General Awareness. Attempts are made to bring live objects or models of the things or taking children for visits to the places to introduce them to the topics.

Kindergarten

Eligibility

A child who is five years or above is eligible for admission in Kindergarten (KG). Direct admission in KG without having attended at least one year of Pre-school/home schooling is not possible.

Behavior Traits

A child who is of five is quite independent. They have good muscle control and are capable of many exercises. They are self-reliant, enjoy playing with others, can listen to and follow instructions. They enjoy being given responsibilities and playing leader. At this stage their fine muscle control is much better and they can write basic alphabets and color well.

Teaching Process

A child at this stage is ready to read and write. Activities and lessons are designed to prepare a child to enter Primary School. Language games where children have to express themselves, memory games which require them to remember certain rules in words and listen and follow instructions are done to help the child’s language development.  Team and group activities which require cooperation and sometimes competition are included to teach numbers and rhymes too.

Written work activities are included at this stage with colorful and easy to follow worksheets. Children are also coached to appear in interviews for primary schools in a more focused manner at this stage though the training starts right from play group.
